Ming Chi-Kuo is a longtime Apple analyst reporting on Apple products throughout the year, including the iPhone
According to his latest research report, Kuo predicts that Apple's revenue is expected to rise up to 100% year-on-year in 2021 due to a change in the battery components of the iPhone 13.
The report claims that Taiwan Career Technology will reappear as a key supplier for Apple's entire product line in 2021, including the iPhone 13 in H2 from 2021, new AirPods expected in the first half of next year, and a new iPad mini. LED (where new display technology will debut) in the same time frame.
The iPhone 12 batteries currently use a combination of hard and soft plates and the iPhone 13 is said to completely switch to soft plate technology. Soft plate batteries contain fewer layers than their hard plate counterparts. This new type of battery would help save valuable internal space on iPhones and cost less to produce.
This year's iPhones have slightly smaller batteries than last year's iPhone 11 lineup. Given the added power draw of 5G modems across the line and the iPhone 12 Pro with a larger screen, the new iPhones aren't doing as well on endurance. Apple is looking for ways to extend battery life while making iPhones thinner.
Taiwan Career Technology is expected to receive between 40% and 50% of battery orders for the iPhone 13 and 13 mini next year. Unimicron and Unitech, two other vendors, are also expected to supply batteries for iPhones.
According to the report, the new AirPods 3 is expected to share its design with the current AirPods Pro and Taiwan Career Technology is expected to fulfill orders for soft plates on the AirPods themselves, as well as within the charging cases. The same supplier will also provide soft plates of acoustic and optical components for the LED mini iPads. Once again, both the new iPads and AirPods 3 are expected sometime in the first half of next year.Date update on 2020-11-16. Date published on 2020-11-16.
