Cryptocurrencies a minefield full of hackers

With Bitcoin in the lead, although it is smaller than it was only a few months ago, it is really high. This, without a doubt, brought a lot of positive things but with that overcrowding the problems also arrived. Among them the so-called cryptojacking.

Cryptojacking is defined as the secret use of a device to mine a cryptocurrency when the user does not know it. This means that what hackers do is install a virus or hack pages to use the power of infected computers or to enter those sites.

In this practice, information is not stolen, but user resources are used. Also, it is not bad per se. They are, for example, used in a beneficial way. The purpose for which they are thought, in some cases, is to eliminate advertising on the internet.

"The idea was that while the user reads the newspaper or consumes content from that site, cryptocurrency, help the publication or platform and do not see banners and advertisements," explained Cecilia Pastorino, IT security specialist at ESET.

"Unicef, for example, uses the mining script to raise money for the boys in Syria, so the user can know that he is undermining cryptocurrencies and accepting it, the attack comes when they do not know it," he added.

In recent times, the increase in the price of cryptocurrencies also caused this kind of attacks to grow exponentially. But as there are so many, most of the antivirus already recognize the threats and warn the user what is happening on their computer so that they can accept or block them.
