Customize Photoshop by changing its background color

photoshop

This is the most used tool to create images, both by professional and amateur users. In it we can find all kinds of tools, functions and effects that allow us to give our photos or our drawings a professional finish.

However, in addition to these tools, we must also take into account the work environment customization options that will help us to be more comfortable when using the tool. One of these options is, for example, changing the background color of the workspace.

By default, Photoshop uses a dark gray color (# 2c2c2c) that occupies most of the workspace. On this dark background is where the white canvas is placed on which we must begin to draw or edit.

If the image is clear we have no problems. However, if we are working with an image of dark tones, we are sure that on more than one occasion we find that we cannot differentiate the background from the limits of the image that we have open.

Within the customization options that we will find within Photoshop we will show you different ways to change the background color of Photoshop. In this way we will be able to adjust it according to the tones and colors of the image that we are going to edit or simply to our liking, to have the background with which we feel more comfortable.

Steps to follow to change Photoshop background color

From the configuration menu

One of the ways to change this default background color is to do it from the tool settings menu. To do this, we simply have to open the configuration options of this tool (Control + K, as we explain in the Photoshop keyboard shortcuts) and from here we will go to the "Interface" section.

Here we can see how various color themes appear by default. These themes change the configuration of the general interface a bit, being able to choose between 4 different gray tones.

If what we want is to change the background color, then what we need to do is to display the Standard Screen Mode menu, choose the option "select custom color" and choose the color that we want to use in the box that appears of Photoshop.

As we can see, this will only change the background color of our work environment, but all other elements will remain as is, without modification. Now we can perfectly delimit the edges and work better.

From the workspace itself

If we don't want to enter Photoshop options, another very quick way to change the background color of our workspace is from that same space. For this we just have to right click on the workspace (eye, not on the canvas) and choose the color we want to use in this workspace.

We can choose one of the predefined colors that we have seen in the previous point or choose a custom color.

When we have the color, we can see how the background of Photoshop is already different, and we can work much better with the image.

How to return to Photoshop default colors

If for some reason we are not convinced of changing the background color of Photoshop, we can always return to the default settings.

To do this, we simply have to go back to Photoshop's Preferences menu (Control + K) and choose «Default» in the standard screen mode.

We can also do it by right-clicking on the workspace, as in the previous point, and choosing the option «Default» to be able to use the background color again according to the theme we are using.
