Windows 10 is an operating system full of more or less hidden options that allow us to improve the user experience with Microsoft software
In fact, in these lines we are going to focus on one of the most veteran, Execute.
And as many of you already know, the Run dialog box is one of the oldest features of Windows. To get an idea, its implementation was launched from Windows 95, although some improvements were included in Windows 10. From this, although apparently simple, many tasks can be carried out, so it can be Interesting sometimes, block it.
This, for example, can be useful if our PC is used by several users, so we need to apply certain additional restrictions to the system itself. Keep in mind that access to this functionality has changed with the passage of Windows versions. For example in Windows Vista and Windows 7, this option was hidden in the Start menu by default. But just run a couple of mouse clicks to add it again.
However, as of Windows 8, Microsoft has removed it from the Start menu. In this way and starting with Windows 8, the Run dialog can be opened through the "Win + R" key combination. The same can be done by clicking with the right mouse button on the Start menu or with "Win + X", where we will see that it appears. We should also know that the latest versions of Windows 10 already allow you to start applications with Administrator permissions directly from the Run dialog box.
To do this, all we need is to press "Ctrl + Shift + Enter" to launch the application as an administrator from the Run box itself after typing the name of it.
Block access to the Run dialog box in Windows 10
Therefore, in the case that we want to add a restriction to Windows 10 and prevent users from accessing this dialog box, we can do it from the system registry itself. In this way, the first thing we should do is access the same Execute function, and write the “regedit” command. This will give us access to the registry editor, where we can already make the changes mentioned.
In order to achieve this block to Execute, we have to place ourselves in the following path "HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ Policies \ Explorer". Once at this point, we have to create a new value in the right-hand panel of the 32-bit DWORD type called "NoRun". Say that even if we use Windows 10 64-bit, this value must be 32-bit DWORD. Once we have created it, we double click on it to set it to 1.
With this we will be able to deactivate the Windows 10 Run function after restarting the computer, once we have introduced the registry changes. Similarly, if in the future we want to reverse the changes, we can eliminate this new NoRun value so that we can continue using the Run dialog box.
