Hackers disseminate personal data of German politicians except the extreme right

There are telephone numbers, postal addresses, internal match documents, personal bank documents and sensitive family information

The personal data of numerous German politicians have been published on the Internet, according to information from the regional channel RBB that have been confirmed by various German media. Those responsible for the events would be a group of as-yet-unidentified hackers, who did not attack the members of the far-right alternative group for Germany (AfD).

Among the data to which these hackers had access are mobile phone numbers and postal addresses as well as internal documents of the parties, personal bank documents and sensitive information about the family environment.

According to the RBB channel, the data began to be published on social networks before Christmas but only began to draw attention to them on Thursday night. The same information ensures that the parties have already been informed of the attack.

Not only politicians

In addition to various contested Bundestag and regional parliaments, the Bild newspaper talks about data from hundreds of politicians. Among them, German President Frank Walter Steinmeier as well as artists, public television journalists and representatives of NGOs have been affected.

The best-known cases outside of politics are those of sports journalist Hajo Seppelt, who uncovered the scandal of systematic doping in Russia, and that of humorist Jan Bohmermann, which at the time generated diplomatic tensions over a satire against Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
