How to migrate from an old Apple Watch to a new one

Apple recently announced the new versions of the Apple Watch and with them the update of WatchOS 7 (the latest version of its OS for wearables or wearables), therefore, it is worth being prepared to renew hardware and software.

Given that the Apple Watch is the best-selling smartwatch on the market (1 in 3 smartwatches sold in the last quarter was an Apple Watch), users tend to value the updates at the WatchOS level that brings functionalities that improve, even more, the user experience (for more details it is worth reading the following article about the new ce WatchOS 7).

For this reason, it is necessary to update from one model to another safely (without losing the precious data) with the respective backup copy of the information contained in the iPhone until the present moment in time (it is the equivalent to clone the data you currently have on your Apple Watch to later restore it to the new model).

Said backup made on the iPhone includes “most of the data included in the old Apple Watch”, that means that some details will not be included in the backup, such as:

  • Devices paired via Bluetooth,
  • The information of the credit cards included in Apple Pay of the Apple Watch,
  • The access code to the Apple Watch,
  • The messages (in case the user is not using iCloud and the messages in the cloud).

Now, here comes the small note about the process ...

To migrate from an old Apple Watch to a new one, you must use the “Watch” App from the iPhone to unpair it from the smartphone, which will not only unlock it from the account, it will erase the data and leave it free so that a new user can use it.

For this reason, the following precaution must be taken:

Make sure to run the process from the iPhone to create a more recent backup of the old Apple Watch info (which means the wearable or wearable device must be in close range to the smartphone to sync the latest data).

To unpair the old Apple Watch it is necessary:

  • Keep Apple Watch and iPhone as close as possible while unpairing from each other.
  • Open the Apple Watch app on the iPhone.
  • Go to the "My Clock" tab and select the "All clocks" option.
  • Finally, press the information button that appears next to the smart watch to be unpaired.

Once the old Apple Watch has been unpaired or unlinked, it is possible to proceed to link the new one and restore the backup from the “Watch” App for iPhone and proceed to follow the instructions on the screen of the two terminals.

Once the new Apple Watch is paired or paired, it is a matter of restoring the backup and following the step by step to start using the new smartwatch in less than nothing!
