Microsoft patents a speaker that combines energy efficiency and high audio quality

Faced with the current situation of other manufacturers, Microsoft still do not have a smart speaker. Apple has the Homepod with Siri, Alexa its range Echo and Google the catalog of speakers Nest Home and while in Microsoft the nothing ... there was an attempt with the Invoke of Harman Kardon but he stayed in that, in an attempt.

And seeing the launch of this type of products in the market, it is not surprising that in Microsoft they are still thinking of their own proposal to try to conquer a part of the market, if it is not too late to achieve it. It is at least what the latest patent that has come to light regarding a new speaker that they may be working on suggests.

We do not know if it will be too late for Cortana to gain prominence beyond the business market, but this patent can be a good reason to house a point of hope. And it offers some details to keep in mind.

The patent is called "High-efficiency speaker with multi-magnet structure" and was filed in May 2018 and published by USPTO on November 26, 2019. This is the text that appears in the mentioned patent:

“If we look at the traditional large speakers, the flexible and corrugated support called spider is used to suspend the voice coil in its place in a basket. In a different variant, the spider can bind to the membrane (for example, diaphragm) on one side and a basket or magnet on the other side, providing stabilization for the membrane along its corresponding range of motion, ”reads The patent.

A patent that presents a fashionable speaker in terms of design, with a cylinder shape similar to that offered by the models of other brands that we can see in the market. But the secret would be inside, as it would seek to offer a great sound quality and, in turn, lower energy consumption.

A speaker that offers a different design inside that we can find in traditional speakers with a structure of multiple magnets and a voice coil located in the space between the internal and external magnet. The external structure allows stabilizing the range of motion in response to a force generated by the voice coil and the structure of multiple magnets.

According to the Microsoft patent, this technology allows the loudspeaker to be more efficient in terms of energy consumption and performance, since the mini loudspeakers work with smaller amplifiers without reducing the volume or sound quality. This translates into better sound and at the same time a lower power consumption compared to speakers of similar size that include larger amplifiers.

We do not know if this speaker will end up materializing in a real product but it would be an interesting proposal now that this type of products are acquiring a high degree of prominence and in the way it could be the last nail of Cortana if Microsoft opts to include its virtual assistant and still reserve some home use.
