North Korean hackers attack bank in Mexico

Lazarus a group of hackers from North Korea, wanted to take 100 million dollars from the Mexican financial system through a cyber attack

Lazarus, a group of North Korean hackers, wanted to take 100 million dollars from the Mexican financial system through a cyber attack.

"We managed to identify that a group of North Korean hackers have tried to affect the national financial system," said Marco Rosales, head of the Investigations and Technological Operations Unit of the Attorney General's Office (PGR).

Asian cybercriminals failed to steal more than 100 million dollars from the bank with operations in Mexico, he said.

"Lazarus has affected other banks around the world and they are blamed for losses of more than one billion dollars," he said at the end of his participation in the Summit 1000 leading companies in the world.

The representative of the PGR ruled out that Lazarus has attacked the Interbank Electronic Payment System of the Bank of Mexico (Banxico), from which some 300 million pesos were illegally taken at the end of April.

"We have evidence and there is the possibility of some national stakeholders (in the SPEI attack), but we do not rule out other foreign groups," the PGR official added.
