The largest ship built using 3D printing in 72 hours has broken 3 Guinness records

microsoft

At the University of Maine they have manufactured this ship of 2.2 tons and 7.6 meters in length in 72 hours, using a gigantic industrial 3D printer.

The entire process can be seen in the video, conveniently accelerated by the time-lapse technique.

The print job required three full days (72 hours) and is visually very entertaining, because it's like when they cut a ship or any other vehicle in a section, but the other way around. With this construction they broke at the same time three Guinness records:

  • Largest polymer 3D printer
  • Largest 3D printed solid object
  • Biggest 3D printed boat

The gigantic printer can print objects up to 33 meters long by 7.5 meters wide and 3 meters high. How could it be otherwise, they are already thinking of using it militarily to build ships, shelters and other military equipment, although of course it will also have other applications.
