Things PlayStation should learn from Nintendo

Nintendo

In this list we review the 10 things that Nintendo PlayStation should learn. From Nintendo Direct, to continue betting on portable consoles or the success of their mini consoles. Do not lose detail!

Nintendo is not only a pioneer in the world of consoles and video games that has just turned 130 years old, but in its trajectory it has always been clear how to do things, and do well in the field of video games, especially after the serious crash of 1983. Therefore, there are many things that other companies should learn from it.

So that you know better what we are referring to, we have prepared this list with the 10 things that PlayStation should learn from Nintendo, from innovation in controls, to mini consoles or to bet on the cooperative.

Nintendo Direct

One of the things that Nintendo always does very well is to present its games, and through the streaming format that Nintendo Direct has, they have managed to mark their own style.

The Nintendo Direct have replaced the usual conferences of the various companies, and are characterized by teaching many games in a very short space of time, which causes the rhythm of the ads to leave as a rule good taste, both in quantity and for quality (or depth in a single game, as happened with some Pokémon Direct).

Sony has tried to adapt it to their own style, like other companies that have also tried to copy this format, but in the only two State of Play that we have seen so far, they have not managed to be as good and dynamic as a Nintendo Direct.

Innovation in the controls

Another of the things that Sony could learn from Nintendo is in the innovation in the controls. The Japanese company of the Great N is always trying to make big changes in this aspect, while Sony (and other companies) have been more conservative.

Let's not forget that Nintendo has introduced the majority of changes in the controllers, and is the main responsible for the controls that we know today, since they introduced the digital crosshead, the analog stick and also the back buttons, to name a few examples.

Also between consoles there has always been a big difference, the controls of Wii or Gamecube have nothing to do with those of Nintendo Switch or Wii U, while those of Sony have always been quite similar to those we saw in previous generations, with slight changes. In addition, Nintendo is already preparing its next controls, what will surprise us?

For all audiences

Another of the fundamental characteristics of Nintendo is that practically always its great releases are aimed at all audiences, such as the Super Mario saga, The Legend of Zelda or Splatoon, to name a few.

Sony, on the other hand, has decided that its great triple A exclusives focus on a more adult audience, as has happened with God of War, Horizon Zero Dawn or The Last of Us, and it would not hurt to vary the audience to which They want to go, since Nintendo has shown that good games can be made and for all audiences.

Mini consoles

The Sony PlayStation Mini had many errors, such as a fairly questionable game catalog with notable absences and also, only available with English texts, something that did not leave many users too happy.

On the other hand, Nintendo mini consoles such as NES or Super Nintendo have been real successes, with a catalog of titles much more numerous, varied and with many key titles included. Sony should learn from it in the face of possible releases of future retro consoles, such as a possible PS2 Mini.

Bet on the cooperative

With Nintendo Switch one of the main features that they wanted to underline is playing with your friends, but on the same console through the Joy-Con. Most companies now focus on the online part of the games, and it seems that the typical multiplayer in the same console, or split screen has lagged a bit behind.

It has always been a feature that users like a lot and although Sony has some titles of this genre, it has not decided to bet on this style as much as Nintendo does, and it is something that could also be improved

Nintendo Switch Online

The Nintendo Switch online has a few problems, but nevertheless it offers us some interesting features that PlayStation could learn from.

One of them is the lowest price, which in PS Plus is exactly triple (although they offer different things). And on the other hand, we also have the possibility of classic games, this is a functionality that could be easily implemented in PlayStation and that would add more value to the service. Although the truly radical change would be to offer the free multiplayer, something that doesn't seem to happen.

Portable console

We all like to play wherever we want and one of the things that Sony has abandoned after PS Vita are portable consoles, something Nintendo does have with its Nintendo Switch hybrid console, and that will increase even more with Nintendo Switch Lite.

Portable consoles are a great option for these holiday periods and we would all like to see a new Sony portable console, but for now they do not seem to have any plans to take out a new laptop similar to PSP or PS Vita. We will have to wait to get out of doubt.

Experiments like Nintendo Labo

Another of the things we love about Nintendo is experimentation, trying new ideas that have not been carried out to date. Nintendo is launching innovative ideas such as Nintendo Labo or Ring Fit Adventure on Switch. They are new products that, although they are not thinking for all the players, they do offer very original and innovative ideas.

In the case of Labo. With just a few cards, new experiences can be created in the games and it is an invention specially designed for children, or for parents who want their children to make the leap to video games and easily enter programming. It also has its shortcomings of course, but it is the kind of innovation that we miss sometimes on PlayStation.

Take care of classic sagas

Another thing that Nintendo has always opted for is its franchises that know they work. To give two of the best known examples, the Super Mario and The Legend of Zelda sagas have been with us for almost 35 years. Although Sony has been less time in video games, none of its original creations of the first PlayStation are still active as Mario or Link.

With each game of these two sagas the company tends to outdo and be better than the previous one. It is also good to bet on the new IPs, but there are untouchable franchises that will always give us good titles and that still have a lot to tell. A combination between classic franchises and new IPs is the key.

There are no longer any of the great Sony exclusives that continue for such a long period of time, and although if titles such as Crash Bandicoot remain, the last two deliveries have been cross-platform, and the rest of the great exclusives such as The Last of Us, Horizon Zero Dawn or Marvel's Spider-Man, have little time behind them. God of War is what we could consider more classic, since the first installment is from 2005. And Medievil, one of his classic series, was born and died in PSOne. And Ape Escape is not comparable (and it was not seen in the last generation).
