This Google Chrome trick will help you read any website without distractions

chrome

Some browsers have a Reading Mode. This option, which we must manually enable on the websites we want, allows us to eliminate all distractions from any article so that we only see the main text and images

In this way we can read the article without distractions, without videos or other annoying elements that can distract or annoy us. While this reading mode has been enabled in Firefox for some time, Google Chrome users have not yet been able to enjoy it. However, Google's browser does have this function, although we must activate it manually in order to use it.

Enable Reading Mode in Google Chrome

Although Google has already implemented this feature in all versions of its browser, today it is hidden by default. Therefore, most users cannot use it because they cannot find the corresponding function to launch it.

To enable it, all we have to do is activate it from the experimental functions section, or flags, of the browser. For this, the first thing to check is that we have installed in our computer version 75, or higher, of the Google browser. If we do not have it, we recommend you follow the following manual to update or download the latest version of Google Chrome.

If we already have the latest version of Google Chrome on our computer, then the next step will be to enable the corresponding flag. We can easily do this by typing the following in the address bar of our browser and marking this experimental function as "enabled": chrome://flags/# enable-reader-mode

Once this function is enabled, we restart the browser and go. From this moment we can start using this function.

How Google Chrome Reading Mode works

From now on, when we are going to read an article, we can see an icon on the right side of the address bar that will allow us to activate this reading mode. We click on this button and we can see how the content of the article appears on a dedicated page that allows us to read it without distractions.

One of the most interesting configurations of this function is to be able to change the font size, typography and color. If we click on the A that appears at the top of the article we can see a drop-down that allows us to style this reading mode. In this way we can customize the look as we want (even with a dark mode) to be able to read the articles in the most comfortable way possible.

Differences with Firefox Reading Mode

Firefox has been offering its users the Reading Mode for a long time. Now Google wants to bring it to all its users and, although for now it is in the experimental phase, we can already try it and get an idea of how it works.

As we can see, the reading mode of Firefox is much more complete than that of Google Chrome. And in part, this is thanks to the acquisition of Pocket by Mozilla. On the left side we can find the options for customizing the text and, in addition, a function that allows us to read the content instead of reading it. Firefox text customization options are far superior to those offered by Google Chrome.

We can also see differences in typefaces, spacing and text size. In addition, the colors are different. The dark mode of Firefox and Sepia are much nicer than those of Chrome.

Both options work without problem and fulfill their mission. However, it is true that this feature in Firefox is much more careful than in Google Chrome. We will have to wait to see if for future updates Google updates and improves this feature.
